PYC Youth Ministry (Presbyterian Youth Connection)

To promote youth ministry in our presbytery by organizing and offering two or more presbytery-wide youth events each year. Traditionally, youth retreats have been sponsored at Vanderkamp Center over Columbus Day Weekend and Martin Luther King Weekend.

2007 Event: 43 participants from 6 Churches gathered at Vanderkamp over Martin Luther King Weekend
The group was smaller this year, but the Spirit was moving through this group of kids like I have never seen before. Rev Peter Shidemantle helped with the program by sharing his experiences and slides from his recent trip to Israel and Palestine. The remainder of our time together was spent in one of three workshops, they were - Drama, Music and Visual arts. The drama group used excerpts from diaries written by Palestinian youth to dramatize some of the stories and emotions expressed. The music group wrote an original song and a rap that we used in our closing worship. The visual arts made a collage expressing the emotions shared and transformed the fireplace room into worship space used to close our program. 
 
2006 Event: Over 100 in attendance at the Radical Faith:Get up and Go?!Concert  with David M. Bailey, Presbyterian singer, songwriter, and cancer survivor.

Over 100 youth (from 16 churches in the Presbytery of Cayuga-Syracuse) were in attendance at the PYC Youth Retreat held at Vanderkamp Conference Center during Martin Luther King Weekend.
