Civil Rights Connection
To instill in young people the ideas of personal growth and humility. To teach them the values of nonviolence, patience, and determination which guided the civil rights activists and have them incorporate those qualities into their own lives. To have them acquire an awareness of the role that faith played in sustaining the Civil Rights Movement and give them a sense of how faith can bring comfort and direction to their own lives. To have them share the lessons of the Civil Rights Connection with their friends, fellow students, and other young people, thereby creating a kinder, more tolerant environment in their schools and communities. The Service Project, such as our Gulf Coast clean up, will bring a sense of satisfaction from physical work as part of a team for a noble cause and will instill in them a profound realization of their own many blessings.
